MELLOR SPORTS CLUB
Mellor Sports Club is located just south of Stockport on the eastern side of the borough. The club is the home to four well established sports clubs; badminton, cricket, lacrosse and tennis club. All sections play within North West leagues and are represented by male and female, adult and junior teams.
The glorious setting of the local countryside makes the club’s location a special place, very much admired by members and visitors. Our refurbished bar and lounge area is available for hire, enabling members and non- members to enjoy social occasions.
OUR TEAMS
Our History
Mellor Sports Club was founded in 1953 when the village's badminton, cricket and tennis clubs got together cementing an informal arrangement which had started in 1951. They were joined eight years later by the lacrosse club. In 1951, Warwick Frost (a generous but eccentric local gentleman), re-mortgaged his home to raise funds to buy the ground which at the time was only used for cricket. Cricket-mad Warwick would think nothing of boarding the local bus with a collection box to gather funds for the club. His devotion was inspirational and village sport flourished. In 1961 the lacrosse club, which had been forced to play in many different locations throughout Mellor, Marple Bridge and Marple, finally found their permanent home. Before the clubhouse was built, our badminton section played in a WW1 drill hall on Longhurst Lane. The cricketers changed in an old, wooden train wagon located on the edge of the field and our all-weather tennis courts had a shale surface which required sweeping on a regular basis.  Over the years, the Mellor club has seen a major rebuild and a host of ground improvements making it one of the most successful and popular sports clubs in the area.
